Social media users are swarming to bah-humbug Mariah Carey, the Queen of Christmas.

Yesterday (October 6), Mariah Carey performed live at the American Music Awards (AMAs) 50th Anniversary Special at LA Center Studios in Los Angeles.

The 55-year-old, who has won ten American Music Awards, performed a number of hits from a single, special record, but not all in the audience was pleased.

Carey sat down with the American Music Awards to discuss the 50th anniversary of the award presentation before to her performance.

“Being a part of the 50th anniversary of the American Music Awards is pretty amazing,” she stated. This was my first time participating in an awards show. I’ve simply been thankful to be a part of every moment ever since.

Carey began her performance with “Don’t Forget About Us,” which kicked off the festivities for her own anniversary, which is in 2025, the 20th anniversary of the release of her tenth studio album, The Emancipation of Mimi (2005).

“It’s really just an incredible thing that it’s lasted this long,” she said to the audiences.

‘We Belong Together’, the album’s second single, was then performed by her.
Some social media users, however, have questioned if she truly “sung” the songs live.

“Mariah’s lip syncs are always so noticeable #AMAs50,” remarked one Twitter user.
Mariah has to lip sync now, which I detest. Another person said, “Her 90s vocals were INSANE.”

Another person asked: “Do y’all think the final part of Mariah’s performance at the AMAs was live?”

Other users, however, vehemently supported the singer.

Someone posted: “Waking up and watching Mariah at the AMAs.. the legend that she is.”

One person remarked, “FLAWLESS performance Mariah!!”.

“Man…y’all gotta STOP saying Mariah Carey lip syncs EVERY TIME she performs smh,” said a third.

Perhaps Carey hasn’t really warmed up in the eyes of some viewers yet, regardless of whether she lip-synced some of the lyrics or not.

However, she will undoubtedly return in time for the remainder of her residency as well as her Christmas tour, which runs from November 6 to December 17.

The Live in Las Vegas portion of the singer’s Mariah Carey: The Celebration of Mimi tour is scheduled to begin on January 31. Carey will perform eight concerts before the tour ends on February 15. The singer’s residency started earlier this year.
