TikTok has introduced a new trial program in collaboration with NCMEC that will post Amber Alerts directly within the For You stream, offering additional coverage in cases of missing people within the app.

This example from NCMEC shows how missing persons alerts are currently put in the app; however, the new software will prioritize them, ensuring that they appear in more people’s feeds in the reported region.

Which could provide essential early response, because time is an important aspect in such circumstances.

Starting in Texas, the new program might be a big help in raising awareness of missing people and having more eyes looking for them. And, given TikTok’s younger audience, this could be especially useful, as many of the reports involve missing kids who may move in similar social circles.

As previously stated, TikTok is testing the new amber notifications in Texas before rolling them out to other regions.
