The psychiatrist who acted as Dre’s marriage counselor and mediator during his divorce from his wife of 24 years, Nicole Young, is suing the music producer for $10 million.

Dr. Charles J. Sophy, the counselor, allegedly accused Dre of launching a “malicious campaign of harassment” against him, including homophobic slurs and physical threats, according to Billboard.

The case, which was submitted to a Los Angeles court on October 9, claims that after their mediation meetings, Dr. Dre (actual name Andre Young) threatened Dr. Sophy with late-night texts for almost a year. Dr. Sophy claimed to have “worked diligently” to assist Dre and Nicole Young in resolving their conflicts prior to and during their acrimonious divorce.

However, Dre allegedly vented his anger on Dr. Sophy rather than seeing the mediation process as a chance for resolution. According to Christopher Frost of Frost LLP, Dr. Sophy’s attorney, the producer’s rage was shown through a persistent campaign of “intimidation and violence” combined with derogatory homophobic statements.

In addition to monetary damages of at least $10 million, the complaint is requesting a restraining order to stop additional harassment. Requests for comment have not yet received a response from a Dr. Dre spokesperson.

The high-profile court fights of Dr. Dre’s divorce from Nicole Young, which started in 2020 after their 24-year marriage ended, now include another chapter thanks to this lawsuit.
