George Clooney and Brad Pitt have worked together on several occasions throughout the years, including Ocean’s Eleven (and the subsequent Twelve and Thirteen), as well as the Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading.
And now, 16 years after that comic shaggy-dog yarn, the duo is back on screen together in Jon Watts’ new comedy-thriller Wolfs. That’s a proper movie-movie-star pairing, leading Watts’ return to more grounded territory after helming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home; his latest film stars Clooney and Pitt as solitary crime scene fixers who are forced to work together after being called to clean up the same mess. Wolfs (it will take a few viewings to get used to how that title sounds) appears to be that all-too-rare thing: a film-star-led original studio feature that does not originate from any form of source material. Watts, whose career began with the Kevin Bacon-starring Cop Car, has written and directed this one, and he’s clearly channeling his considerable Spider-Man cache – helming three films grossing roughly $4 billion combined in the space of four or five years – into something entirely new. Pitt and Clooney are joined by Amy Ryan and Austin Abrams as the two fixers’ night becomes increasingly out of control.

We’ll see if Wolfs can turn the combined strength of two all-out A-listers into box office gold when it hits theaters on September 20 – and it’s also set to arrive on Apple TV+. Watts has a busy schedule ahead of him, not just with Wolfs, but also with his Star Wars series Skeleton Crew (co-created with Christopher Ford) set to premiere on Disney+ before the end of the year.
