Johnny Depp erased an image of ‘him and Robert Downey Jr.’ after it was discovered to be a forgery.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Downey Jr. received his first Academy Award on Sunday (March 10), earning Best Supporting Actor for his part in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Downey Jr played former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Lewis Strauss with an intensity that many thought matched Cillian Murphy’s J Robert Oppenheimer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his award speech, the Iron Man actor stated, “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depp was among those who celebrated Downey Jr.’s Oscar win on social media, but he has since had to withdraw the image he posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, the Pirates of the Caribbean star uploaded a photo of himself and Downey Jr. to his Instagram stories, congratulating his old friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the photo was a digitally changed photograph of the two stars, and many admirers saw the Photoshop error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The image, which appears to be from a fan site, is a photoshopped photo of Downey Jr. and his then-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker from 1988.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, Depp was completely absent from the photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The modified photo appears to have been manufactured by a fan and has been around for a few years, so Depp may not have even realized it was a fake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actor instantly replaced the image with a real photo of himself and Downey Jr. at the Golden Globes in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Let us try this again…””Congratulations to my dear friend,” he said in the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the harm had already been done, as one Twitter user posted both the false snap and the actual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes after Downey Jr. was himself in his own scandal at the Oscars for appearing to ignore Ke Huy Quan when winning his award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Oppenheimer star on the stage and got the statuette from Quan; there was little interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was no traditional handshake, and many online commented that Downey Jr. did not even make eye contact with Quan after accepting the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
