R. Kelly says he didn’t know about a verdict from August 2023 that granted six women $10.5 million for making threats that caused the docuseries Surviving<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Kelly claims that if he had known about the lawsuit, he would have fought it. The musician says this particular lawsuit must have gone missed since he was so overwhelmed with legal concerns and changed his legal representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelly says he “cannot read or understand words beyond that of a grade schooler” and depends on his attorneys to explain what he would be up against, should he get the lawsuit.<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

The six women who featured in the Surviving R. Kelly docuseries were accused of being threatened repeatedly by R. Kelly and his manager at the time, Donnell Russell. In addition, Kelly and Russell threatened to sue the ladies and the docuseries producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone on Kelly’s team allegedly threatened to “shoot up” the venue. Leading to the cancellation of a December 2018 screening in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In these most recent court filings, Kelly claims that Russell was never his manager and feels that if Russell made the threat that resulted in the screening being interrupted, then Russell should take full responsibility because “he did that for his own reasons.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of the lawsuit, Russell was sentenced to one year in prison.<\/h6>\n\n\n

R. Kelly was found guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking in 2022 and received a 30-year prison sentence. After that, he faces an additional 20 years in prison for allegedly committing child sex crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
