After 24 years as head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick is going to step down. <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ESPN was the first to report the news, which finally cleared up one of the biggest coaching questions of the NFL summer. People who know about the case say that the decision was mutual and friendly. Belichick had one year left on his deal, so he could leave the Patriots without having to pay them anything. The experienced coach is also likely to get some attention from the seven other teams that are looking for new head coaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New England’s next head coach will probably be someone they already have on staff. Owner Robert Kraft had already mentioned that linebackers coach Jerod Mayo could become the next head coach. He is now thought to be the favorite for the open job. The team will also have to make a lot of choices, like who will be their quarterback going forward. The team has the third pick in the 2024 draft and is likely to pick quarterback Jayden Daniels, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Belichick isn’t the only wise old coach who is leaving. Nick Saban, a longtime friend, told everyone on January 10 that he was leaving after 17 years as coach at Alabama and more than 50 years in the business. Saban led Alabama to six national titles. At the end of the 2023 season, Alabama lost the Rose Bowl to Michigan, who went on to win the title. The first job Saban had as a coach was as a graduate assistant at Kent State in 1973. In 1990, he was hired as head coach at Toledo for the first time. Before he came to Alabama in 2007, he had the same job at Michigan State, LSU, and the Miami Dolphins. Right away, he fixed a program that was failing and made it into the force it is today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
