One of the most significant sports stories of the year thus far was the decline of Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, and for good reason.
For the majority of the 2024 collegiate football season at Colorado, Sanders was widely regarded as a first-round prospect. The rumors of his descent down the draft board did not commence until the days preceding the 2025 NFL Draft. Even a drop to the second round was unexpected to all individuals who are involved in the NFL community.
During the draft, I received texts from colleagues and family members inquiring as to whether they were correct in their shock at Sanders’s complete absence from the first two days. At first, it appeared that the NFL had wronged a young player who had done nothing but prove himself, despite being in his father’s shadow. The NFL made an example of Sanders.

Shedeur may have vindicated the NFL’s position with a recent incident, however. Sanders was cited for driving at 101 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, and it was later discovered that he had also been cited for driving at 95 MPH in a 60 MPH zone earlier in the month.
In a single instance, a led foot is comprehensible; however, what if it occurs multiple times within the same month?
What is even more distressing is that Sanders and his sibling Shilo, an undrafted free agent safety for the Buccaneers, simply laughed it off.
