Sheriffs are currently investigating allegations of child maltreatment at an Iowa Bible study camp, which has resulted in the removal of nearly 90 children as part of an investigation into human trafficking.
On Thursday and Friday (June 12 and 13), the Shekinah Glory camp in Columbus Junction, Louisa County, was seized after a 15-year-old Texan boy reportedly contacted authorities to express his disinterest in attending.
Subsequently, the 88 children who were present at the camp were transported to the Wapello Methodist Church, which is situated approximately 15 minutes east of the camp in Wapello, a small community near the Illinois border. Child protection workers were responsible for their care.

Subsequently, the children were placed in protective custody.

The Kingdom Ministry of Rehabilitation and Recreation, a religious charity, operates the group. The ministry’s website lists David Cung Nuam, Sui Hlawn Sang, and James Hei as ministers.
Its mission statement is as follows: “Providing food and shelter to those in need, assisting individuals in breaking free from addiction through God’s Word, and providing support during fasting and prayer.”
Victor Bawi, the son of one of the camp’s ministers, has since issued a statement in which he maintains that the adolescent was not harmed, and he also asserts that the parents of the children who were removed from their custody desire to return their children.
“We did not cause any harm to that child.” He was beloved by us. He informed KWQC, “We purchased him footwear, clothing, and other items for approximately $400.”

“I am, of course, displeased.” The children who are with us are also quite upset; however, there are no children with us. We are hoping that this matter can be resolved shortly.

“They have the option to conduct an investigation.” We are blameless. They are unlikely to uncover any information. We have never perpetrated any form of harassment.
He continued, “You may also inquire with the children; they were engaged in amusement.” They were in tears during the scene in which they removed the children. Oxygen was administered to one of my sisters. She was not respiring. She was depressed.
“We trust that the children are in good health and will be able to return.” We conversed with the parents and the children. They are eager to return. Their intention is to return their children.
The pastor of the Methodist church where the children were taken to explained that the majority of the children did not remain overnight, and by Monday, there were no children at the church. He also noted that between 80 and 88 children arrived at the property.

Bawi explained to WQAD8 the activities that occur at the Christian camp, stating, “Our objective is to provide care for both adults and children who are under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or nicotine.”
“We care for the adults and children, and we provide them with food.” We separate the minors from the adults. The boys and girls are separated. We provide for them and care for them. This summer camp.”
