A contemporary rendition of an iconic rock song is being released, featuring a country music influence.
Steve Perry, the original lead vocalist of Journey, collaborated with the legendary Willie Nelson to release a cover of “Faithfully” on Wednesday, more than four decades after the renowned power ballad became a hit. The wistful update also includes Mike Rojas on piano, James Mitchell on electric guitar, Kent Wells on acoustic guitar, Scott Sanders on steel guitar, Steve Mackey on bass, Mickey Raphael on harmonica, and Nir Z on percussion.
“No one possesses a voice or vocal phrasing that is like Willie Nelson.” Perry stated in a statement, “I have always aspired to perform this duet with Willie.” “I am extremely proud of our joint accomplishments.”

Perry’s Hollywood studio, Love Box, and Ronnie’s Place in Nashville were the locations where the recording was recorded, according to Blabbermouth. The non-profit Farm Aid organization, which was established in 1985 by Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young to provide assistance to American family farmers, will receive all proceeds from the new “Faithfully” recording.

“Collaborating with Steve Perry on ‘Faithfully’ was a profound experience.” This composition was a delightful collaboration. Nelson expressed his pride in the ability to develop a meaningful project and utilize it to support Farm Aid.

The song “Faithfully,” which was composed by Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain while on a tour bus to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., was initially published on the band’s “Frontiers” album in 1983. Despite the absence of a chorus, it became one of Journey’s most enduring songs and peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Perry, the lead vocalist of Journey from 1977-1987 and 1995-1998, is the original voice behind the hits “Faithfully,” “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).” In 2017, the 76-year-old vocalist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame jointly with the band.
Nelson, who celebrated his 92nd birthday last month, is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The 40th Farm Aid festival is scheduled to take place in Minneapolis on Sept. 20. His Farm Aid initiatives have raised nearly $80 million to advocate for a family farm-centered agricultural system in the United States.
Nelson is also scheduled to perform at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview in Syracuse on Aug. 10, as part of his Outlaw Music Festival this summer. Tickets are available for purchase at Vivid Seats, StubHub, and Live Nation.
