Al Trautwig, the longtime voice of MSG Network and the Knicks and Rangers broadcaster, passed away at the age of 68, leaving New York without an icon.
“I regret to inform you that a great voice in sports has passed away. Alan Hahn, Trautwig’s MSG coworker, posted on X on Monday morning, saying, “But we lost a lot more than that.”
In addition to being a buddy, he served as a teacher and mentor. When I first started my business, he was one of my greatest sources of support.

When Trautwig joined MSG in 1989, he was well-known for his in-studio coverage of the New York Rangers and Knicks before and after games. On occasion, he also performed the NYR’s play-by-play responsibilities.

Al also covered the New York Yankees for MSG over the years. Additionally, Trautwig became well-known for his coverage of Olympic gymnastics, which he did for almost 20 years before ceasing in 2016.

Al was even a talented actor. In 1993, he played himself in the John Candy classic “Cool Runnings.”
Although Trautwig’s cause of death is unknown, he took a leave of absence in 2019 following a cancer diagnosis.
