Burning Man confirms the death of a female guest on the festival’s opening day, which mirrors a tragedy from last year’s event.
A lady died on the first day of the 2024 Burning Man Festival in Nevada’s Back Rock Desert on August 25, according to the festival. This year’s event began on the morning of August 25, with an attendee discovered unresponsive at 11:29 a.m. Burning Man emergency staff reportedly treated her and sought to save her life, but were unable to do so.
“It is with heavy hearts that the Burning Man Project confirms the death of a participant in Black Rock City in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert,” the festival’s website reads. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends affected by this loss. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office has identified the participant. The Burning Man festival goers’ temporary residential base is known as Black Rock City.

“The safety and well-being of our employees and community are critical,” the statement adds. “We are completely collaborating with local authorities while they examine this event. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office investigates all deaths that occur within its jurisdiction. We will not provide any other information at this time in order to respect the bereaved family’s privacy.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, since the incident is still being investigated. The woman has been identified as 39-year-old Kendra Frazer. Unfortunately, the occurrence appears to be similar to those from previous years.

Last year, Burning Man announced the death of 32-year-old guest Leon Reece. Reece died after being discovered motionless on the event grounds.
In 2022, 68-year-old Tennessee Judge John Everett Williams died of natural causes while attending Burning Man. Joel Mitchell, 41, died in 2018 after running into a Burning Man building fire on the Saturday of the week-long event.
This year’s Burning Man Festival will last until September 2, with an estimated 70,000 people in attendance.
