TikTok has now implemented a group chat option, allowing you to broadcast all of those cucumber recipe videos to a group rather than a single person.

The business announced the technology on Monday, which allows you to include up to 32 people (including yourself) in one very demure, very careful conversation. You can add friends or followers to a group chat, and friends can add you, but you can only invite mutually followed friends to participate. If your TikTok settings prevent you from receiving direct messages, group chat invitations will not show.

To establish a group conversation, simply enter your TikTok inbox, press the + button to begin a new chat, choose which friends to add, and then tap “Select group chat.” You can alter the name of the conversation and add users, just like in most other messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Signal, and Instagram.

You can also establish a group chat by directly sharing a video; TikTok now displays a “Create group chat with friends” option when you select several individuals to share with.

TikTok announced that it has limited the number of groups that can be created and the number of times messages may be forwarded. Muting and blocking capabilities have been added to group conversations, as well as the ability to report harassing, abuse, or nasty behaviour.

The group chat feature is not available to those under 15 (the minimum age to use TikTok is 13), and youths aged 16 to 17 have limited access. According to TikTok, “If a teen is sent a link to join a group conversation, they will be unable to participate unless the group has at least one mutual buddy. If they meet the eligibility requirements, they must make a proactive decision to join. When a kid creates a group conversation, we will automatically require them to review and approve new members.”

In the same blog post, TikTok announced the addition of stickers in DMs, allowing you to spam your group chat with them.

It’s the newest addition to TikTok’s recent feature set, which also includes the TikTok Spotlight entertainment tool, more in-FYP ticketing, and AI-generated digital avatars. That is, when the company is not pursuing legal challenges in the United States from all angles.
