The Emmy-nominated actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who won America over as ‘Theo Huxtable’ on ‘The Cosby Show,’ passed away at the age of 54. According to reports, the actor drowned while swimming while on a Costa Rican family vacation.

Warner was traveling with his family at the time of the incident, according to People. The actor’s representative has not yet issued an official statement, and details surrounding the drowning are still unknown.

Warner became well-known as a teenager after being chosen to play Theo Huxtable, Cliff Huxtable’s son, on NBC’s “The Cosby Show.” The 1984–1992 series was well-known for its popularity and influence.

Warner immediately rose to fame after receiving an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In a 2023 interview, Warner told People, “I know I can speak for all the cast when I say The Cosby Show is something that we all still very proud of.”

“No matter how much time passes between seeing or speaking to each other, we have a special bond that keeps us lovingly connected.” “I’m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on — first and foremost — Black culture — but also American culture,” he added, regardless of how some people may feel about the show now.

Following “The Cosby Show,” Warner costarred with Eddie Griffin in the 1996–2000 UPN sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie.” He co-starred with Tracee Ellis Ross in BET’s “Reed Between the Lines” from 2011 until 2015. He then landed a number of parts in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” FOX’s “The Resident,” and “Major Crimes.”
