83% of American adults watch TV using streaming services, which is far higher than the percentage who watch through cable or satellite, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.

The study was released earlier this month after being completed in April.

Fifty-five percent of respondents claimed to watch only through streaming, which means they do not currently have access to cable or satellite.

Just 8% of respondents claimed to watch exclusively through cable or satellite, but another 28% claimed to utilize both streaming and these services. Eight percent more said “neither.”

Data debrief: According to 72% of American respondents polled, Netflix is the most popular platform overall, followed by Prime Video at 67%.

However, 72% of adults between the ages of 18 and 29 reported using Hulu, making it the most popular streaming service among this demographic. 78% of people aged 30 to 49 said they watch Prime Video, making it the most popular platform among this demographic.

Additionally, according to the survey, 44% of participants think streaming subscriptions are worth the money, compared to 31% who disagree and 25% who are unsure.

Why it matters: Advertisers are joining the trend of people abandoning traditional TV in favor of streaming.

Younger people aren’t the only ones spearheading this movement. Indeed, 92% of those aged 30 to 49 and 88% of those aged 18 to 29 reported watching streaming.

However, so do 65% of people 65 and older and 83% of people 50 to 64.

Therefore, streaming isn’t exclusively for kids. It has become a generational habit.
