It has been made public that John Elway called 911 to try to send paramedics to his friend Jeff Sperbeck after he fell off a golf cart earlier this year.
On the evening of April 26, Elway is heard telling the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office… “we were on a golf cart and he fell off the golf cart.”
Although there are numerous instances of the former Denver Broncos quarterback attempting to clarify the events, the audio is substantially censored.
When Elway said, “He fell off the golf cart,” “He was on the back and he fell off the golf cart.”

During the call, dispatch instructed Elway on how to treat Sperbeck’s wounds, stating that no one should “move him unless he’s in danger.”
Eventually, Elway gave the phone to someone who called dispatch to let them know that a medic was on the scene, but they still needed assistance.
Although Sperbeck, 62, was declared dead on April 30, he was eventually taken to a nearby hospital.
In the hours following his death, Elway, who founded a vineyard with Sperbeck after playing in the NFL, issued a statement expressing his sadness and heartbreak.
The two-time Super Bowl champion added, “There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.”

Sperbeck’s family also released a statement expressing their sorrow over Jeff’s passing, saying, “He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all.”
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office looked into the occurrence, but on Monday it declared it to be “a tragic accident with no evidence of criminal activity or intent.”
“Consequently,” according to the RCSO, “no criminal charges will be filed at this time, and the case will be documented as an accidental death.”
