Larry David and President Barack Obama are creating a sketch comedy for HBO.
The network has ordered the series, which will be based on American history and will star Curb Your Enthusiasm cast members.
President and Mrs. Obama commemorated America’s 250th anniversary and celebrated its unique heritage.But then Larry David called.
David and his Curb colleague Jeff Schaffer wrote the unnamed half-hour limited series, which is also directed by him. There will also be “noteworthy” guest stars. It will be created by Obama’s Higher Ground.
The extraordinary coupling is David’s first effort since Curb Your Enthusiasm completed its twelfth season last year.
It is also reported to be the first series produced by the Obamas’ Higher Ground outside of Netflix, where they have a deal. Last year, Deadline announced that it had signed a film deal with 20th Century Studios for the Christmas comedy Merry Ex-Mas.
Former President Obama stated, “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and grappled with some of our most intractable issues.” “Nothing has prepared me to work with Larry David.”
David said, “After Curb concluded, I celebrated with a three-day foam party. After having a severe allergic reaction to the suds, I longed to return to my simple existence as a beekeeper, gathering organic honey from the wildflowers in my meadow. Unfortunately, one day, my bees unexpectedly disappeared. And so, with a heavy heart, I return to television, hoping to alleviate the loss of my beloved hive.”
Amy Gravitt, EVP, Head of HBO and HBO Max Comedy Programming, stated, “It’s difficult to recall a time before Curb, or without Larry David’s view on modern life. We’re happy that Larry is returning to HBO, this time with Higher Ground, to provide a glimpse into our common history as we commemorate our Semiquincentennial.”
Schaffer continued, “The people Larry is playing did not affect history. In fact, they were mostly overlooked throughout history. And it is a good thing.
