Few occupations entail a media spotlight intense enough to spark insinuations of affiliation with the clientele of disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

(Which, according to the Department of Justice, does not exist)—but that’s one of many reasons Whoopi Goldberg believes her job as moderator of The View “can feel like hell” at times.

The 69-year-old Oscar-winning actress kicked off Tuesday morning’s broadcast with an extra-long audience reception that saw the studio audience rise to their feet for a lengthy round of applause for Goldberg and cohosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

“Let us say this to you: Thank you for that, because sometimes this gig can feel like hell,” Goldberg said. “And sometimes you feel like people are just angry at you all the time, so to get a welcome like this this morning, we really appreciate it.”

Goldberg then introduced a Hot Topic about “some of MAGA’s most faithful” who “are feeling betrayed right now over a promise administration officials have been repeatedly making,” referring to the alleged Epstein client list that US Attorney General Pam Bondi once claimed to have on her desk.

“There’s nothing sitting on anybody’s desk,” Goldberg said, before Behar explained why she believes conservative lawmakers pushed the idea that the Epstein list existed in the first place.

“What’s interesting about this case for me, first of all, there is no list,” Behar pointed out. “What bothers his MAGA supporters are not the tariffs that would raise food costs, nor the potential that you will lose Medicaid, forcing you to care for your moms and fathers who have dementia or whatever is disturbing them. It’s not the Epstein list, but the fact that they planned to use it against liberals. They were going to expose Bill Clinton or anybody they thought — you and me.”

She turned to face Goldberg, who joked to the laughing audience, “Yes, we’re on the list.” We are on that list,” before clarifying, “No, no, no! You are joking, yet we were included on that list.”

Hostin, a former federal prosecutor, chimed in to clarify that, according to online adversaries, Goldberg and Behar were “allegedly on the list,” while Griffin stated that “the internet is convinced” of the erroneous information.

Griffin, who previously worked for Donald Trump at the White House before resigning and speaking out against the president, believes that politicians “look for things that affirm your own worst instincts,” and that those who deserve Republican ire are often not celebrities.

“It’s not Joy and Whoopi?” Hostin asked. “Fortunately, it’s not Joy and Whoopi,” Griffin said.

She went on to say, “I was on the inside of government, I was a lot more partisan before, and you suddenly see facts that aren’t black and white.” They’re not blue and red, Democratic and Republican; they’re often just ugly, dirty, and things that can’t even be made public due to the dangers involved.”

Goldberg concluded the piece by asking, “When will it be enough?” When will [people] say, “OK, that’s it?” Regarding conspiracies.

“Is it going to take the farmers getting up and going, ‘Okay, your food is rotting here because we’ve gotten rid of everybody who wants to come here and do this and take care of their families?'” the actress who plays Ghost questioned.
