Eight individuals were tragically killed in a recent boating catastrophe on Lake Tahoe.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division confirmed to ABC 7 San Francisco that 37-year-old Josh Pickles, a DoorDash executive from San Francisco, was one of the victims, as well as his parents Terry Pickles, 73, and Paula Bozinovic, 71. The tragedy also claimed the life of Josh’s uncle, Peter Bayes, 72, according to a spokesperson for the family.
Timothy O’Leary, 71, James Guck, 69, Theresa Giullari, 66, and Stephen Lindsay, 63, were the other four victims. This incident is the most fatal marine accident in California since 2019, according to the outlet. Although their condition is unknown, only two individuals survived.

Their representative informed the outlet that on June 21, Josh and his family celebrated his mother Paula’s 71st birthday by taking a ride on the California lake in his 27-foot “Chris-Craft” luxury powerboat. According to ABC 7, officials received 911 calls reporting that their boat capsized during a tempest at approximately 5 p.m.
“This is a tragic and heartbreaking event that resulted in the loss of Joshua Pickles, his father Terry, his mother Paula, his uncle Peter, and friends and family,” the representative stated to ABC 7. “The family maintains residences in both the Bay Area and on Lake Tahoe.” They are fond of the lake. That contributes to the calamity that has transpired.

The representative stated that Jordan Pickles, Josh’s wife, declined to accompany him at the time, preferring to remain on shore with their seven-month-old. And although she survived the fatal boat accident, Jordan disclosed that her husband’s death has irrevocably altered her life.

“We are devastated by this tragedy,” she stated to the outlet. “The anguish and pain we experience as a result of the loss of their lives during what was intended to be a joyful time on the lake are indescribable.” Those who tragically lost their lives and the two survivors of this unexpected and fatal storm on Lake Tahoe are in our thoughts.
Josh was the Global Head of Strategic Sourcing and Procurement within the Finance team at DoorDash, as indicated by his LinkedIn profile. He had been with the company for nearly seven years.
DoorDash’s chief financial officer expressed his appreciation for Josh’s contributions to the food ordering company in a statement.

He further stated, “He possessed a contagious spirit that inspired those in his vicinity throughout his nearly seven-year tenure at DoorDash.” Josh’s absence is immeasurable. We are profoundly saddened by his absence and will forever cherish his memory.
