David James, a former personal assistant to Diddy, is continuing his testimony in the federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial of the disgraced rap impresario in New York City on Tuesday.
He informed the jury about a harrowing incident in Los Angeles that involved another titan of the music industry.
James was questioned regarding an incident that occurred in 2008 at Mel’s Diner, a restaurant in Los Angeles, involving former rap mogul Suge Knight (who is presently serving a prison sentence for an unrelated offense). James recounted that he was accompanied by a man named D-Roc as he drove a Lincoln Navigator SUV to purchase cheeseburgers.

James testified that D-Roc recognized Suge Knight at the location and approached him to converse. However, Knight evidently did not recognize D-Roc, as he responded, “I’m Biggie’s boy,” a reference to the slain rapper Notorious B.I.G., who was murdered in the city in 1997.

James stated that this was the moment they observed four black SUVs parked on opposite sides of the parking lot. He also claimed to have observed an individual present Knight with a firearm. D-Roc recommended that they depart, and they did.

He claims that they returned to Diddy’s residence, where he observed Cassie weeping. Diddy then entered a different vehicle with James. James testified that he observed three firearms on Diddy’s lap as they returned to Mel’s Diner. However, Knight was absent, and Diddy instructed him to drive around the block.
James testified that the incident had a profound impact on him and that he ultimately decided to depart the company. He declined other positions that were offered to him, stating that “My life was at risk.”
