When it came to getting the most out of Metallica’s set, fans at their performance at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, this past Wednesday did not mince words.

Twice during the band’s performance, the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory recorded vibrations, both of which were related to the band’s popular song, “Enter Sandman.”

Readings from the Observatory, which is more than a mile from the stadium, showed two significant spikes: once during the teased introduction of “Enter Sandman,” and again, albeit to a far greater extent, when Metallica performed the song.

There were more than 60,000 people present, and it was said that the earthquakes were created by their coordinated hopping during the song.

The fact that the song served as the entrance music for the Hokies, who play football for Virginia Tech, is also helpful. Therefore, it was inevitable that the band’s performance of that song at Virginia Tech’s stadium would be insane. But literally shaking the ground? That’s really awesome.

The show also garnered media attention when supporters pointed out that snipers were there. However, numerous experts quickly reassured viewers that this is standard procedure for huge events, especially athletic events and those held near colleges.

We’ll see whether Metallica causes any more seismic chaos as they are just beginning their US tour.
