Sony has today unveiled a new internal studio dubbed Team LFG, which will create “a team-based action game.”

According to Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Studios, the studio “originated at Bungie, but has also rallied developers from across the industry to bring to life an ambitious incubation project that I’m very excited about.”

Curiously, no specific devs were mentioned as part of the studio announcement, thus it’s unclear who works for Team LFG. According to the statement unveiling the studio, it is “a team composed not just of industry veterans who have shipped titles like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, but also industry newcomers with fresh creative perspectives and skills.”

The presence of Team LFG is part of PlayStation’s push into live service games, which has been cut back from its original ambitious ambition following a series of catastrophic setbacks.

Sony acquired Destiny creator Bungie in 2022, and the studio went through several rounds of layoffs in the years that followed. When announcing layoffs in 2024, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons stated that “we are working with PlayStation Studios leadership to spin out one of our incubation projects – an action game set in a brand-new science-fantasy universe – to form a new studio within PlayStation Studios to continue its promising development,” referring to Team LFG. Bungie is currently working on a multiplayer shooter titled Marathon.

Sony also released the hero shooter Concord in 2024, but the debut was so bad that the game was taken down, and the developer, Firewalk Studios, was eventually shut down.

It’s unclear how far Team LFG’s initial release has progressed or when it will be properly disclosed. The development firm claims that “we will make immersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours” and that its initial release “draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.” According to the company, “players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.”
