Stevie Wonder and Usher provided the musical entertainment for this year’s Met Gala on Monday night.

The gala’s post-dinner musical spectacle kicked out with actor and co-chair Colman Domingo taking the stage beside the Temple of Dendur within the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

According to Vogue, the Sing Sing actor read a poem to welcome the opening act, Usher, who played hits like Yeah!, U Don’t Have to Call, and OMG as the star-studded audience rose to their feet.

He was followed by music icon Wonder, who had made his Met Gala debut with his family earlier that evening. Joined by a nine-piece band, Wonder began his headlining show with an a cappella rendition of Sir Duke before dazzling the audience with a slew of favorites including Black Man, Higher Ground, and Isn’t She Lovely.

According to the publication, a singalong broke out in the room as Wonder performed Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours), followed by I Wish and Superstition.

He wrapped up the show by inviting Usher back out for a duet of his song Another Star.

During his red carpet appearance, the 74-year-old spoke with Vogue on the significance of Black fashion, which is being highlighted by the Costume Institute’s new exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

“It’s great that it’s being commemorated tonight. “I appreciate it,” he said. “But the reality is, I believe that God has celebrated what we have done since the beginning of time… since we were created we’ve created style, whether be it music, whether be it dance, whether be it, the most important thing, love.”

This year’s celebrity co-chairs included Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams. The latter also contributed to the musical entertainment by creating an interlude for the Voices of Fire choir, which was led by his uncle, Bishop Ezekiel Williams.
