Johnny Depp is giving his all in his upcoming film role.
Lionsgate revealed on Monday, April 14 that Day Drinker, the Marc Webb-directed film starring Depp, Madelyn Cline, and Penélope Cruz, is currently in production in Spain.
In the first image of Depp in costume, the Oscar candidate is seen looking menacingly off camera while sipping a drink.
Depp, 61, portrays a “mysterious” visitor on a private yacht who meets Glass Onion star Cline, 27, who works as the boat’s bartender. According to the synopsis, “They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.”

Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle are also part of the Day Drinker cast.

“I’m excited to be starting production with Johnny, Madelyn, Penélope and this incredible cast,” adds Webb, who most recently helmed Disney’s live-action Snow White, which starred Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
“We’re in a beautiful location with a fantastic crew and a thrilling, ferocious story to tell,” he continues. “This is gonna be fun.”
Cruz, 50, and pal Depp have previously featured together in the films Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), and Blow (2001).

As Depp’s first appearance in a big distributor picture since the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018, Day Drinker will be his Hollywood comeback.

He has appeared in the French film Jeanne du Barry, which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and directed the movie Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness since the conclusion of his widely reported defamation trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard, who currently resides in Madrid, Spain.
In May 2023, at a press conference for the Cannes Film Festival in France, Depp gave an explanation of why “comeback” didn’t seem like the right word.
At the time, he remarked, “I keep wondering about the word comeback because I didn’t go anywhere.” Perhaps people stopped calling out because of whatever terror they were experiencing at the moment. I didn’t go nowhere, though. I have been lounging.
