Based on Rolling Stone, Corey Walker, the only adult charged with killing Pop Smoke, told the rapper’s family and close friends that he was sorry in court on Friday (February 21).
It took him 29 years to get out of prison in Los Angeles for the 2020 crime after he admitted to voluntary killing and home invasion robbery. There were also several gun and gang exceptions to the claims. Walker also thanks his defense lawyers, Kellen Davis and Deion Benjamin, for “helping [him] avoid a much harsher punishment” while he was saying sorry.

Corey Walker said about his part in killing Pop Smoke, “Even though the Jackson family isn’t here in court today, I would like to sincerely apologize for my unforgivable actions.” “Even though there’s no apology that’s the same as killing someone.” Along with my community, I’d also like to take this chance to say sorry to my family for the pain and shame they have had to go through over the last five years. […] As of today, I’m taking blame for my terrible part in these crimes. This is the start of my journey to recovery, and I promise that I will not do anything bad.
Four people killed Pop Smoke in an Airbnb in Los Angeles on February 19, 2020, which is almost exactly five years ago at this writing. In particular, Corey Walker drove a group of three teens who had been convicted in juvenile court to the house where the New York MC, real name Bashar Jackson, was living at the time. Walker’s plea deal changed the charge of murder to manslaughter, which meant that he would not be sentenced to life in prison without the chance of release. “Corey Walker was not a good person who took part in any of this.” Deputy District Attorney Hilary Williams is said to have told Rolling Stone that he was the mastermind behind planning, driving, and giving guns to children.
“It’s over for everyone except me,” Pop Smoke’s mother told the news source about the end of the case. “This will never end for me.” That’s not fair. I’m glad that the bad guys were caught. Thanks for making sure they got justice to the fullest extent of the law. My life stays the same. My son is still not with me. I’ll keep working on his legacy, but it will always tell me that he’s not here.
