Kendrick Lamar may be the clear favorite to be named Hip Hop’s MVP of 2024 after his rap battle triumph against Drake, but K. Dot feels another MC is deserving of the gold medal.

In a rare social media post on Thursday (October 17), the Compton native declared Doechii the “hardest” rapper in the game right now.

Kendrick said on his Instagram Stories, beside the artwork for Top Dawg Entertainment’s latest album Alligator Bites Never Heal, “the hardest out [alligator emoji].”

Unsurprisingly, Doechii was quite thankful of the high comments and responded on her own Instagram page: “Thank you Dot. “You are the greatest.”

She subsequently added: “Getting your flowers while you can still smell them >>>.”

The shoutout was not unexpected, considering Doechii appears in a recent CashApp advertisement produced by Lamar’s creative team pgLang, demonstrating that he still has strong links to his previous label.

Doechii recently expressed her desire to work with Kendrick Lamar, however she admits she is not quite ready yet.

“I don’t make any assumptions, and I don’t feel entitled to a Kendrick feature, but I would enjoy it. “That is the goal,” she said on The Joe Budden Podcast. “I’m confident that for my first project, I’ll ultimately ask Top [Dawg] if he can ask Kendrick, or I’ll approach Kendrick personally, and see what happens.

“But, to be honest, I don’t believe I currently hold the record for that opportunity. I believe I would have to come in a certain manner, and I am not prepared for that.

The co-hosts were delighted by her response, and Budden himself said, “I love that from you.”

Doechii has had a successful year, with TDE labelmate ScHoolboy Q praising his album Alligator Bites Never Heal.

After its release in August, the “THat Part” hitmaker tweeted on X (previously Twitter): “Just Here to say DOEcHii… That’s all I care about right now.”

TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, who discovered and mentored the Compton native to superstardom, has linked the lauded record to Kendrick’s breakthrough 2011 mixtape Section.80.

“I have the same feeling I had when KDOT dropped Section 80,” the record executive posted on Instagram to promote the release. “She’s 1 of those ones 4sho !!!! #TDE20 #TimelessClassicMusic.”
