With an emotional Instagram video, Lil Wayne has broken his silence on his rejection to be the 2025 Super Bowl halftime performer.

Wayne told his fans on Thursday, September 12, that he was “broken,” which is why it took him some time to even articulate his feelings. Along with blaming himself for having expectations, he expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him.

“Let me start by asking for your forgiveness for the wait. He started, “I had to gather enough strength to complete this without cracking. “I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their thoughts, voices, and unwavering love, support, and care. When I attempted to fall back, your words transformed into arms and held me up.”

He went on, “That hurt,” referring to his first feelings about the choice. It was quite painful. You are aware of what I mean. It stung a great deal. I hold myself accountable for not psychologically preparing for a letdown and for mentally placing myself in that situation just because I was told it was my role. So I hold myself accountable for it.

Wayne continued by expressing gratitude to his network of supporters and telling them that without them, he would not be the person he is today.

Among the most vocal supporters was Nicki Minaj, who subtly criticized JAY-Z on X, saying that he was “denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego.”
