Carrie Underwood is returning to American Idol, this time as a judge.
According to Deadline, the Grammy-winning singer is slated to replace Katy Perry on the singing competition show that made her famous.
Underwood will join current judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Perry stated earlier this year that she was departing the show after serving as a judge for the previous seven seasons.
Underwood won season four of the show in 2005, selling 85 million records and earning eight Grammys, making her one of the most recognized and successful Idol alumni.

She has returned to the show as a mentor on various occasions over the years.
The search for Perry’s replacement has been ongoing for several months. Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Pink, and Meghan Trainor were among the other renowned names supposedly under consideration by the network.

In an interview with Billboard, singer/songwriter Bryan discussed the search for a new judge.
“It has been interesting. We have yet to learn who will be returning. I believe Disney is just figuring out what they want to do, and we’re just sitting back and waiting for their decision.”
