Tamayo Perry, a surfing hero best remembered for his role in the fourth ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, has died, authorities announced.
Tamayo, a well-known surfer, was killed by a shark off Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu, Hawaii, on Sunday. Local surfers discovered his body. According to Stab Magazine, TP’s arm and leg were removed when his body was discovered.
According to Honolulu emergency services, a spectator witnessed the incident on Goat Island on Oahu’s famed North Shore.
Tamayo, who also worked as an ocean safety lifeguard, was apparently taking a break from work when the event occurred at 1 PM.

Tamayo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi later praised the late surfer as “a legendary waterman.” Tamayo famously won the Pipeline Masters surfing tournament in 1999.

Kurt Lager, Honolulu’s ocean safety chief, shared a similar opinion, saying, “Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.”
In addition to his part as a buccaneer in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” Tamayo played minor roles in the sports-romance film “Blue Crush” and the CBS adaptation of “Hawaii Five-0.”
Tamayo is survived by his wife Emilia. He was only 49.
