Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was convicted guilty of all three federal felony firearms counts. Biden broke regulations designed to prevent drug addicts from buying weapons.
President Biden delivered a comment regarding the conviction:
“As I mentioned last week. I am the president, but I am also a father. Jill and I adore our kid and are extremely proud of the man he has grown into. Many families who have had loved ones fight addiction realize how proud they are to see someone they care about come out on the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. I will accept the decision in this matter and will continue to respect the court process as Hunter contemplates an appeal. Jill and I will always love and support Hunter and the rest of our family. Nothing can ever change that.

According to CNN, this is the first time a president’s family member has been convicted of a felony while the father is in office. Hunter Biden now faces a maximum of 25 years in jail and a $750,000 fine. He is a first-time offender and is expected to receive a sentence shorter than the maximum.
A jury of 12 Delaware residents convicted Biden guilty. The first two counts were related to purchasing the rifle. When acquiring a firearm, persons must fill out a form for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) confirming their legal ability to buy the weapon. Hunter Biden has been accused of providing false information on these applications.
The form asks questions like: Have you been convicted of a felony? Are you evading capture? Are you unlawfully in the country? And, most importantly in this scenario, are you a “unlawful user of, or addicted to” illegal drugs? Hunter Biden apparently said “no” to this query.

The third count concerns the possession of the handgun. Possession of a firearm while under the influence of narcotics is illegal under federal law. According to the indictment and public court records, Hunter Biden held the gun for 11 days in October 2018 before disposing of it in a dumpster because his partner was concerned about his mental health.
Biden opened up about his addiction following the death of his brother, Beau, stating that he began smoking crack in 2015.
