People are taking to social media to express their concern after hearing a reference to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in Ryan Gosling’s latest film.
The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Emily Blunt as IF, was released this week, but film had already received online controversy before it even hit theaters.
The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch, is an action-comedy about Colt Seavers (Gosling), a stuntman who has recently survived a near-fatal accident and has taken a year off to focus on his mental and physical well-being.
However, when the star of a movie directed by his ex Jody Moreno (Blunt) goes missing, he is called in to assist, despite the scary producer Gail Meyer’s (Hannah Waddingham) best efforts to keep the actor’s abduction a secret.
In the film, Waddingham’s character makes an unexpected reference to Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Meyer enters a dirty trailer in The Fall Guy and turns to Moreno, saying, “It’s like Amber and Johnny were just here.”

And it didn’t take long for people to flood social media with their fury over the line.
One X user commented, “Seriously, who thought it was a smart idea to include in the film? Talk about tone-deaf.
“that’s usually telling when individuals say ‘that was just a joke’. “They demonstrate why we are still where we are in society, with little to no empathy for survivors/victims of domestic violence,” another said.

A third person said, “Domestic violence is not a joke! How could someone put something like that in a film? Disgusting!”
“As it should be.” DV is not a laughing matter, and it must be treated as a serious illness. “Everyone involved should be ashamed,” a fourth said.
The remark references to claimed incidents of domestic abuse between Depp and Heard, which were documented during the six-week trial.
Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million (£38.2 million) in a defamation lawsuit after she claimed domestic abuse in a 2018 Washington Post article, and the trial saw both stars speak about one other’s behavior throughout their four-year partnership.
Depp won the case and was given $15 million in damages, while Heard lost but was granted $2 million by the jury.
