Johnny Depp erased an image of ‘him and Robert Downey Jr.’ after it was discovered to be a forgery.
Downey Jr. received his first Academy Award on Sunday (March 10), earning Best Supporting Actor for his part in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Downey Jr played former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Lewis Strauss with an intensity that many thought matched Cillian Murphy’s J Robert Oppenheimer.

In his award speech, the Iron Man actor stated, “Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.”
“Chris [Nolan] knew it, [producer Emma Thomas] made sure the she surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time.”
Downey Jr. paid thanks to his co-stars, saying: “Emily [Blunt], Cillian [Murphy], Matt [Damon]… it was fantastic, and I stand here before you a better man because of it.”
“You know, what we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important.”
Many fans felt the Oscar was well deserved, and many praised it on social media.
Depp was among those who celebrated Downey Jr.’s Oscar win on social media, but he has since had to withdraw the image he posted.
On Sunday, the Pirates of the Caribbean star uploaded a photo of himself and Downey Jr. to his Instagram stories, congratulating his old friend.
However, the photo was a digitally changed photograph of the two stars, and many admirers saw the Photoshop error.
The image, which appears to be from a fan site, is a photoshopped photo of Downey Jr. and his then-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker from 1988.
In contrast, Depp was completely absent from the photo.
The modified photo appears to have been manufactured by a fan and has been around for a few years, so Depp may not have even realized it was a fake.
The actor instantly replaced the image with a real photo of himself and Downey Jr. at the Golden Globes in 2011.
“Let us try this again…””Congratulations to my dear friend,” he said in the post.
However, the harm had already been done, as one Twitter user posted both the false snap and the actual.
It comes after Downey Jr. was himself in his own scandal at the Oscars for appearing to ignore Ke Huy Quan when winning his award.
The Oppenheimer star on the stage and got the statuette from Quan; there was little interaction.
There was no traditional handshake, and many online commented that Downey Jr. did not even make eye contact with Quan after accepting the award.
