Gypsy Rose Blanchard arrived in NYC today for an interview that we arranged to tape for “The View.” She was flanked by security and a television crew as she strolled with her spouse, Ryan Scott Anderson.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard is talking to the public about her time in prison and how she feels uneasy now that she is free. She also says that she killed her mother, Dee Dee, in order to escape her unstable circumstances.
After being released from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center last week, where she had completed seven of her ten-year term, Blanchard took the field for her first interview, which aired on “Good Morning America” on Friday.

During the extensive conversation, Blanchard initially reflected on her experience leaving the prison after such a long period, stating that it “felt a little bit like I was dropped in a different world because you don’t realize how much you’re restricted in prison.”
“It seemed like I was in a world of black and white and I just walked into technicolor,” she continued. It was incredible.”
Gypsy went on to talk about the events that led to her imprisonment, accusing Dee Dee of mistreating her by forcing her to have needless operations and pushing her around in a wheelchair while hooked up to a feeding tube even though she wasn’t ill.
Experts in medicine concluded that Blanchard was a victim of “Munchausen syndrome by proxy,” a disorder in which a parent makes up a sick child’s illness in an attempt to win sympathy.
Although prison was less restrictive, Blanchard told ‘GMA’ correspondent Deborah Roberts that living with her mother in Springfield, Missouri, was comparable. “To be honest, there wasn’t much of a difference,” she remarked. In prison, nevertheless, I enjoyed greater independence than I ever did with my mother.”
Blanchard, who is currently 32 years old, reacted when Roberts showed her a picture of herself when she was younger, saying, “I don’t even associate with that little girl anymore.” Like, I am aware of it. However, that isn’t who I am anymore.”
“She had a lot of demons herself that she was struggling with,” Blanchard added, clarifying that she didn’t think her mother was a “monster” despite what the public believed. I didn’t desire her demise. It was all I wanted to get out of. And I believed that to be the only solution.”
She also spoke to Nicholas Godejohn, her co-defendant and ex-boyfriend who was found guilty of fatally stabbing Dee Dee on Blanchard’s orders and is presently receiving a life sentence. “I’m sure we both have a lot of regrets,” Blanchard remarked. I done my time, that’s basically all I have to say. He is fulfilling his responsibility. And I hope his journey is successful.”
Blanchard’s regular listening to Taylor Swift’s music, who she considered her “inspiration” and who helped her through some of the worst moments, was one regret she didn’t have while incarcerated.
